Capt. Scott Collins, Florida Keys Fly Fishing

About Captain Scott Collins, Florida Keys Fishing Guide

Scott has been passionately studying the waters of the Florida Keys almost his entire life.

As a child growing up in South Florida and in the Keys, he was exposed to, and subsequently fell in love with every island and flat comprising that wilderness of the Florida Keys and Everglades known as the Florida Keys Backcountry. This fascination allowed him to accumulate an amount of Keys-wide knowledge held by few guides.

A lot of his success is attributed to being a true Keys “local”. He is a second generation guide, as his father guided in the same waters for 20 years prior to Scott becoming a full-time guide himself. He has truly grown up in the guiding business and feels privileged to have known and learned from many guides of different generations throughout the entire Florida Keys. Scott knows he could never repay them for their help other than to treat the guiding profession with the utmost respect. Armed with a strong foundation of knowledge, it was then that Scott set out to explore and learn every corner of the backcountry.

Upon graduating from Marathon high school in the Florida Keys, Scott went off to Florida State University where he received degrees in Finance and Management Information Systems. After working in software development for almost a decade, he made the tough decision to leave the security of a full time job and returned to the Keys to pursue his true passion of being a Florida Keys Flyfishing guide.

Scott now lives in Marathon with his wife, a first-grade school teacher, and his two young daughters. He feels privileged to be able to spend so many days on the water with anglers that are not just clients, but also his friends.

Fishing Tournaments

After many years of exploring and learning, Scott felt he was qualified to compete in the major Keys fly fishing tournaments. In just three seasons of tarpon tournaments, he has amassed a lifetime of victories, with 5 wins and 1 runner up in 8 events, being the only guide to ever win all three of the major tarpon tournaments in the same season (2008), as well as holding the record for most releases in both the Don Hawley and the Gold Cup. In the same year, he went on to win the Del Brown Permit tournament. The same level of skill, dedication, and attention to detail goes into making every day on the water with his clients successful and rewarding."
